123. Showing and demonstrating the o'clock saddle positions using a ring of steps and a platform
Using 9 inch, 12 inch, and 15 inch diameter freshly cut stumps with hour positions marked on them, John explains the hour positions terminology that saddle hunters use when describing different shot areas around the tree, with 6 o'clock always being the hour position the hunter is tethered in during the hunt.
In this video a Predator platform is used as well as a ring of Bullman and Treehopper strap on steps and when purchasing a set of Bullman or Treehopper strap on steps online, if you use the discount code "Bowhunt" you will receive a 10% discount.
Using the o'clock marked stumps, John shows the hour positions and where he would place his ring of strap on steps around the tree for diffe...

122. Bullman & Treehopper rings of steps and explaining and showing them in use on a tree
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.Месяц назад
This video of Bullman Outdoors (my favorites) and Treehopper strap-on rings of steps shows me explaining them and shows both sets strapped onto a tree (one above the other) with me using them. It also shows the advantages of using steps over a platform as there is a platform on the tree as well and I step onto it to show their limitations when used alone. For a 10% discount on a Bullman or Tree...

116. Reaction hunt in Michigan resulted in taking an 11 point

This 11 point kill was a result of me reacting to hearing a deep guttural grunt in some open timber, while hunting just inside the interior of a cattail and tall marsh grass swamp the morning prior. It was the first time I had hunted such open timber for a mature buck in Michigan since the 1970's as mature bucks in heavily hunted areas rarely move through open timber during daylight unless with...

    John Do you think the modified ESS saddle is safe for one sticking? Noah modified my ESS saddle, all three modifications. Much quieter, less webbing flopping around. 2024 will be my FIRST year in a saddle, after 49 years of hunting tree stands. I will be climbing with sticks, possibly one sticking, to be determined. I’ve watched most of your videos and see that you prep your trees in the off season with spikes or other various steps. My concern is the saddle position on my body (without leg straps) while climbing with sticks. Seems the saddle stays in place with body weight applied but when one sticking your body weight isn’t always applied. For instance after setting the first stick your body weight comes off the saddle while standing on the first step to raise the tether. I would think the saddle would move out of position during this step? I hope this is a valid question considering my inexperience. So far I’ve hung in my garage and on trees at ground level while getting familiar with the system and my climbing method. Respect your knowledge.

    I had one of my best deer seasons ever while running a ton of white flash cameras at hip height, on highly pressured ground. I really think it's region and even property specific. Depends on the deer's personality too. Every buck is different. When you mount cameras high and shoot them down on a scrape or trail, you "spotlight" a very, very small detection zone for the camera and will miss a ton of action just off the camera's view. Mounting them level and at hip height gives you a TON of detection area...definitely personal preference and all about what you believe. Mounting them 15 feet in the air will miss a bunch of movement.

    • @pinch1loaf
      @pinch1loaf 24 дня назад

      It will but that's why I personally only mount cameras on high traffic areas. I look for intersections of major trails, runways or major scrape areas. You can move some brush around and create a bit of a choke point to get the deer to funnel through your detection area. If you pick the right spot you don't need a wide detection area. The deer typically travel on the trails. Not only that but even the range is redundant. Getting a picture of a deer too far away makes it hard to get a good visual. I'm aiming for somewhere between 15-30ft(5-10m) Also consider people stealing your cameras or checking your pictures. You hang your cameras high the odds are most PEOPLE won't even see them.
